Mark Silis, Nutanix CTO

Mark Silis served as MIT’s Vice President for Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) and Chief Information Officer from 2019 until 2025. The capstone of a nearly 30-year journey that he began as an MIT undergraduate in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and spanned an entrepreneurial stint in Silicon Valley during the dot-com boom, and later 20-year career at MIT IS&T, with prior roles of progressive responsibility until his appointment as CIO. With his deep experience and understanding of technology innovation and in-depth technical knowledge, Silis led MIT in driving the overall vision for its digital ecosystem in support of MIT’s research and education mission.

Silis served as a senior member of MIT’s academic leadership and co-chaired the Information Technology
Governance Committee, overseeing the development of information technology strategy and cybersecurity policy
for all of MIT. He served as a founder and member of the Northern Crossroads (Nox), Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC) and worked closely with the leadership of MIT’s Office of Research Computing and Data (ORCD) to ensure strong coordination in the comprehensive advancement of MIT’s computational research mission.
